What it is
Once a member has linked their RuneScape name, the bot knows their clan rank. Rank sync uses that to hand out Discord roles: a Captain in game gets your Captain role in Discord, and when you promote them the role follows.
It is set up in clan management under Discord, on the Roles & Ranks tab, in Automated Authority Mappings.
Before you start
- The bot must be in your server. See Set up Discord for events.
- Create the Discord roles first, in your server's settings.
- Members only get roles once they have linked a RuneScape name. See Set up member onboarding.
Step 1: map ranks to roles
- Open the Roles & Ranks tab.
- In the Standard Clan Rank table, choose a Discord role for each rank under Discord Role Assignment. Leave a rank on No role linked to skip it.
- Tick Auto-Assign for each rank you want the bot to manage.
- Save.
Step 2: turn on auto-sync
Switch on Enable Auto-Sync. From then on, when a member's rank changes in game, the bot removes their old rank role and adds the new one.
To apply everything straight away, press Sync Roles Now. It applies the saved rank and member roles to every verified clan member. It can be used once every 5 minutes. In Discord, /staff member syncroles does the same.
Member and guest roles
These are set on the Member Onboarding tab, not here:
- Verified Member Role(s): given to every verified clan member, alongside their rank role. If one goes missing, auto-sync puts it back.
- Guest Role(s): given to verified players who are not in the clan.
Admin ranks
Admin and the ranks above it are mapped separately, under Configure Admin+ Rank Mappings.
If you map an Admin+ clan rank to a Discord role that has the Administrator permission, anyone who gets that rank in game is automatically given full control of your server. Only auto-assign high-permission roles if you really need to.
Only sync members verified on the website
On the Member Onboarding tab, Require Website Verification makes the bot hold back roles until the member has verified on the RSClanTrack site, not only linked a name in Discord. Use it if you want stronger proof that people are who they say they are.
Common problems
"Bot Role Hierarchy Issue". Discord won't let a bot hand out a role that sits above the bot's own highest role. In your server's role settings, drag the bot's role above every role you have mapped. Many servers give the bot its own high-up role for this.
A member didn't get a role. Check, in order: they have linked a RuneScape name, that name is in the clan, their rank has a role mapped with Auto-Assign ticked, and Enable Auto-Sync is on. Then press Sync Roles Now.
Roles didn't change after a promotion. The bot acts when the site sees the new rank, which happens when it next reads your clan's roster. Wait, or press Sync Roles Now once the site shows the new rank.
Sync Roles Now is greyed out. It was used in the last 5 minutes. The button says when it is available again.
