Skill of the Week

Set up a skill competition that repeats every week or month by itself, with a rotating skill, automatic sign-ups and Discord posts.

For clan staff Updated 11 Oct 2026

What it is

Skill of the Week is a competition that runs itself. You set it up once: how often, which skills, who is in it. From then on the site creates each round, opens sign-ups, tracks it, announces the winner and starts the next one.

Each round is an ordinary competition, so everything in Join a competition applies to members. A clan has one Skill of the Week. Run monthly, it is labelled Skill of the Month.

Set it up

  1. Open your clan's Competitions page.
  2. In the Skill of the Week box, press Set up. Once it is running, the same button reads Settings.
  3. Work through the four sections below.
  4. Press Start Skill of the Week.

Skill of the Week is set up on the website only.

Schedule

Setting What it does
How often Weekly or monthly rounds.
Starts on The weekday a weekly round starts. Monthly rounds always run from the 1st.
At The hour it starts, in game time. One hour is marked (suggested).
Sign-ups open How many days before the start members can sign up, or When it starts.

Take the suggested hour. It is when your members are least active, and starting and ending while few people are playing keeps everyone's results exact.

Rounds run back to back: a weekly round lasts seven days and a monthly round lasts the month.

Who takes part

Setting On means
Whole clan Every member is entered automatically, so nobody signs up.
New members join straight away Someone who joins the clan mid-round is entered in it. Off, they wait for the next round. Whole clan only.
Guests Players outside the clan can sign up too.
Late joiners Sign-ups stay open while a round is running. A late joiner's XP counts from the start of the round, the same as everyone else's.

With Whole clan off, members join each round themselves: from the round's page, with /comp join, or with the Join button on its Discord post.

Skills

Choose how each round's skill is picked.

  • Random skill: a different skill each round, never one from the last four rounds.
  • Skill queue: you choose the order. Click skills to add them, then drag to reorder. Rounds run top to bottom and start again from the top. The one marked Up next is the skill for the next new round.

Discord

Under How to organise it, choose where each round's posts go.

Layout What happens
One channel Every round posts in one channel: sign-ups with a Join button, hourly standings, and the winner.
A thread per round Each round's sign-up post goes in the channel and starts a thread. The rest of that round goes in its thread.
A forum post per round Each round gets its own forum post, and everything for the round goes in it.
A channel per round Each round gets a new channel in a category, named after the round. The bot needs the Manage Channels permission there.

With a channel per round, Old round channels decides whether finished rounds' channels are kept or deleted a number of days after the round ends.

Ping Role is pinged on each round's posts. Leave it on No ping for none.

You can type a new channel, forum or category name and the bot creates it when you save. It can take up to 5 minutes to appear. Move it where you want and set its permissions afterwards.

What happens each round

  1. Sign-ups open on the day you chose. The round appears on the Competitions page and the bot posts it with a Join button.
  2. The round starts. Readings are taken and the leaderboard goes live.
  3. Standings are posted hourly in Discord.
  4. The round ends. Everyone gets a final reading, the winner is announced, and the result joins Past winners on the Competitions page.
  5. The next round is already lined up.

Change or stop it

Press Settings on the Competitions page.

  • Change anything: edit and press Save. The round that is waiting to start is updated to match, and keeps its entrants. A round that is already live keeps its own rules.
  • Stop after this round: lets the current round finish, then stops.
  • Stop now: ends the current round immediately and stops.
  • Turn off: switches it off. Your settings are kept, so you can start it again later.

A single round's Discord posts follow the series. To change where they go, change it here rather than on the round.

Common problems

No round has appeared yet. The first round is created straight away, with sign-ups shut until their window opens. After that, each next round appears when its sign-ups open. The Competitions page shows when it starts.

The same skill came up twice close together. In queue mode the list loops, so a short queue repeats quickly. Add more skills, or switch to random.

A new member isn't in the current round. New members join straight away is off, or the clan isn't on Whole clan, in which case they need to sign up.

The bot can't create the round's channel. With a channel per round, the bot needs Manage Channels on that category.
